We would like to begin by acknowledging the land on which we gather today is the land traditionally used by the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Neutral peoples. We acknowledge the enduring presence and deep traditional knowledge and philosophies of the Indigenous Peoples with whom we share this land today.

    That the Council of the Township of Wellesley accept Caressa Madison and Marie Ann Steffler as delegations.

Ms. Madison spoke from a powerpoint presentation providing photos of the area of concern. Ms. Madison suggested measures to improve the visibility and safety of the intersection requesting that improvements be completed.

Councillor Hergott asked if the delegate as ever looked into the cause of the accidents?

Ms. Madison stated that she has request a police report from WRPS.

Mary Ann Stemmler provided a first hand account of a traffic infraction she experienced on roadways within the Township of Wellesley.

Councillor Hergott asked the Director of Public Works if there have been any changes to the Maplewood Road and Hessen Strasse intersection in recent months?

Director of Public Works, Chris Cook responded that there have been changes including the over stop sign flashing beacons and tree trimming.

Councillor Hergott asked if the Director can include the cost of an overhead beacon and oversized stop signs in the report to Council.

    That the Council of the Township of Wellesley award the contract to JC Millwrights Inc. to perform drainage works as detailed in the Weidner Drain (Weber) Engineer’s Report dated April 26, 2024, for a total bid price of $33,378.66 + HST, and further

    THAT this amount be funded through the Township of Wellesley Drainage Reserve and recovered as per the assessment schedule in the Weidner Drain (Weber) Engineer’s Report and corresponding By-law 27/2024.

    That the Council of the Township of Wellesley award the contract to JC Millwrights Inc. to perform drainage works as detailed in the Lebold Drain Engineer’s Report dated May 30, 2024, for a total bid price of $267,405.78 + HST, and further

    THAT this amount be funded through the Township of Wellesley Drainage Reserve and recovered as per the assessment schedule in the Lebold Drain Engineer’s Report and corresponding By-law 29/2024.

Mayor Nowak asked if staff have received any engineering costs for the work?

Director of Recreation, Danny Roth responded that staff do have an engineering firm in to do some preliminary assessments.

Councillor Hergott asked if staff are looking to renovate or add on to the building?

Director Roth responded that currently the renovation would include the four dressing rooms, four washroom facilities in the dressing rooms,the lobby and adding a universal washroom.

    That the Council of the Township of Wellesley authorize staff to apply for Provincial funding under the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund for the renovation of the lobby, washrooms and dressing rooms in the St. Clements arena.

Mayor Nowak addressed Council expressing the intent of the original motion provided to the Poppy Project was to support displays at Wellesley Library and Council Chambers. Mayor Nowak is requesting support to amend the original recommendation to include the Township of Wellesley Recreation Complex on the list of approved locations to decorate for the Poppy Project.

    That the Council of the Township of Wellesley support the initiatives of the Wellesley Township Poppy Project committee to place additional poppy displays at the Wellesley Village Library, the Township of Wellesley Council Chambers and the Township of Wellesley Recreation Complex as part of the 2024 Poppy Project.

Chief Administrative Officer, Rik Louwagie provided an update including the OMAA Fall Workshop, Climate Action Waterloo Region meeting, and the OCIF funding for the Township.
